National Quilt Day

We are pleased to announce that Katherine Simel of Midcoast Cottage Design will be our guest for our National Quilt Day celebration on March 18. She will be here for the entire day with her wonderful array of patterns. She will be doing 3 trunk shows through out the day, at 10:30, 1:00 and 3:00. Katherine is giving a free pattern to all who attend, and will also have a special on her picnic quilt pattern.

Katherine’s patterns are crisp, clean, modern and fun. Her quilt, “Catching Up” was awarded a ribbon at Quilt Con 2016 for best use of negative space. Version 2

Upcoming Classes

We have some new classes coming up over the next few months, for a full and detailed listing, click here to go to the classes section of our website

Beginning Free Motion Machine Quilting

Betsy will be offering a Beginning Free Motion quilting class on January 28 for beginners, from 9 to noon. The class includes an overview of the machine quilting process and then lots of practice with various free motion patterns. This is a great class to get you started or to give yourself a little boost of confidence.

“Dressing up” with Kantha Stitching

This two part class with Andrea Paul will start with making a basic scarf, that will provide the backdrop to be “dressed up” with Kantha stitching. For part one, participants will sew a basic scarf with either a kit (available here) of fabric of their choosing, that will be simple yet personalized. The part two class will focus on Kantha hand stitching as a way to embellish the scarf. Andrea will show you the basics of hand stitching (large needle & embroidery thread). Slow sewing is a growing trend, and these scarves will allow you to express your own creativity, and make a very wearable accessory. Class meets 2/2/17 and 2/9/17 from 1:00 to 4:00pm. $45.00 class fee covers both classes.

Two Color Knitting

Cindy Charloff will show you the secrets of two handed knitting (with two colors of yarn) We have kits for these beautiful hand warmers. This small scale project is a great way to try out this wonderful technique Class will be held on February 7 and 14, from 1 to 4 pm.

These tuffets were one of our favorite finds at Quilt Market this year. If you haven’t made a tuffet, it is recommended that you start with a round one as they are slightly easier than the square. The sewing part is all foundation pieced, and we have the tools for the “construction” part of the process. We have Tuffet kits that include the tuffet form, the legs, the coverable button and the upholstery batting. The pattern comes with foundation fabric. We also have foundation fabric for purchase separately for those who already have the pattern. The class will be done in two three hour sessions held a week apart to allow adequate sewing time. The fee for the each class is $30. Part I will be focused on the foundation piecing. Part II will be the assembly portion of the class, stapling the batting and cover in place, covering the bottom and putting the legs on. Classes are on February 4th and February 11th.

Winging It

This day long class led by Kitsie Claxton will show you how to “wing” your way to an adorable bird quilt. Kitsie’s method of piecing is very intuitive, serendipitous and fun. She will encourage you to let go of preconceived notions, and just have “wing it” Bring your sense of adventure!

Draw String Bag
We like to find things that you can complete in one class. Sue Duval has been working on this Draw String Bag pattern that can be re-sized in limitless ways. It’s a great project for your own needs and makes a lovely gift as well. This class is Tuesday, February 28th from 1:00 to 4:00.

Nantucket Basket Class

Donele Monte, an accomplished weaver and fabulous teacher will be returning for a week-end Nantucket Basket Class on March 11 & 12. Donele has literally hundreds of basket molds to choose from, and supplies the finest basketry materials….its a great way to spend a week-end!!
