We are so thrilled by the response we have had to Mary McFarland’s clothing classes. The favorite is definitely the Tunic Class. In this class, you will make a basic shirt/tunic, with a choice of neck line and arm construction, and make a pattern to fit YOU. You will then construct a garment based on the pattern you create. At the end of this class, you will have a new tunic and a pattern that is custom fitted to you. Mary has a long history of making elegant one of a kind garments and we are so happy that she will teach this class! This is a two day class held on two consecutive days from 9:30 to 3:30. Because of the need to individualize each garment, class size will be limited to 4-5 people.
This class is Friday, June 16th and Saturday, June 17th from 9:30 to 3:30. The class is $70 per day or $140 for the two days.
Primer on Working with Knit Fabrics
We are delighted to have Christina McGinley teach this class. Christina is a prolific clothing maker, with lots of experience and enthusiasm for garment sewing. This is the our first class dealing exclusively with knit fabrics. Christina will help you understand various types of knits, how to use pdf patterns, along with the basics of putting together a “one hour top”. She will also talk about embellishments, changing neck lines, etc. A great way to learn the joy of sewing with knits! The class is June 22nd from 1:30 – 4pm
Are you curious about the “modern quilt” movement? Sue has put a class together on improvisation piecing that will give you a great introduction to modern quilting, and some experience working without a pattern. You will see lots of examples to inspire your creativity. This class will be Thursday, June 29th from 1 to 4 pm
So why not use fabric to make a piece of furniture? The sewing part is all foundation pieced, and we have the tools for the “construction” part of the process. We have Tuffet kits that include the tuffet form, the legs, the coverable button and the upholstery batting. The pattern comes with foundation fabric. We also have foundation fabric for purchase separately for those who already have the pattern. The class will be done in two three hour sessions held a week apart to allow adequate sewing time. The fee for the each class is $15. Part I will be focused on the foundation piecing. Part II will be the assembly portion of the class, stapling the batting and cover in place, covering the bottom and putting the legs on. Classes are on June 24, and July 1.
Beginning Free Motion Machine Quilting
Betsy will be offering a Beginning Free Motion quilting class on July 8th for beginners, from 9 to noon. The class includes an overview of the machine quilting process and then lots of practice with various free motion patterns. This is a great class to get you started or to give yourself a little boost of confidence.
This day long class led by Kitsie Claxton will show you how to “wing” your way to an adorable bird quilt. Kitsie’s method of piecing is very intuitive, serendipitous and fun. She will encourage you to let go of preconceived notions, and just have “wing it” Bring your sense of adventure! This class will be held on July 22nd from 9:30 to 3:30.
