National Quilt Day / Knit Along

Gee whiz, no snow tomorrow so we can celebrate our shared love of all things quilty. And Spring starts next week, so there is much to be happy about! Just a reminder about our National Quilt Day celebration Saturday, March 18, and some information about our very first knit along!

National Quilt Day

We are pleased to announce that Katherine Simel of Midcoast Cottage Design will be our guest for our National Quilt Day celebration on March 18. She will be here for the entire day with her wonderful array of patterns. She will be doing 3 trunk shows through out the day, at 10:30, 1:00 and 3:00. Katherine is giving a free pattern to all who attend, and will also have a special on her picnic quilt pattern.

Katherine’s patterns are crisp, clean, modern and fun. Her quilt, “Catching Up” was awarded a ribbon at Quilt Con 2016 for best use of negative space. The quilt pictured below is featured in the most recent issue of Modern Quilts. We are so honored to have such an inspiring quilter help us celebrate our shared passion for all things quilting!

Knit Along
Cindy Charloff and Sue Duval have been working on a beautiful summer shawl, and would like to share the fun with you. So here is how it will work. The shawl pattern is Clapo-Ktus (yeah, I can’t pronounce it either!). It is a very easy knit and involves dropped stitches….ON PURPOSE!! The pattern is available on Ravelry, and we also have copies here. If you would like help getting started, stop by on any Tuesday, and Sue or Cindy will give you a hand with any questions.

We will be hosting a little Knit Along Party on May 9th at 3 p.m. Tea and Yarn Cake will be served….we will have a show and tell of all shawls completed, and there will be a drawing for a $50. Quiltessentials Gift Certificate. So join in the fun, call if you have any questions.

The picture on the left shows the shawl in progress before the stitches were “dropped”….that part is kinda fun!! The finished product is on the right, made with an off white cotton yarn…..start your needles ladies!!

Yarn Tasting

We are pleased to announce that Paula and Steve Farrar, owners of Done Roving Yarns will be here for the day on Saturday, April 15th with all of their beautiful yarns, some door prizes and lots to show you. They will have some samples of ways to use their yarns, so stop by anytime on Saturday and check out the yarn from this fabulous Maine company!!

In this class, you will take a basic shirt/tunic, with a choice of neck line and arm construction, and make a muslin pattern to fit YOU. You will then construct a garment based on the pattern you create. Mary has a long history of making elegant one of a kind garments and we are so happy that she will teach this class! Because each student’s garment is tailored to them, the class size is limited to 5 students. This is a two day class held on two consecutive days, June 17th and 18th, from 9:30 to 3:30.
