Upcoming Events:

Our traditional Hop Into the Holidays Shop Hop will be held on November 15th and 16th from 10 am to 5 pm. The participating shops are Alewives Fabrics in Nobleboro, Calico Basket in Windham, Oxford Mill End in Oxford, and Quiltessentials in Auburn. Each shop will have holiday gift ideas, demonstrations, and refreshments! Our focus here at Quiltessentials will be Stash Busting strategies….stay tuned for more details!! Each shop will be drawing a winner for a $200 Gift Basket, and there will be a Grand Prize Winner who will receive $400 in gift certificates ($100 from each of the 4 shops). So mark your calendars, and let us help you get ready for the holidays!

Stuff your Stocking will start early this year. For a number of reasons, we have decided to start on November 25th. The first day of Stuff Your Stocking will be November 25. We will not be sending out an email on Thanksgiving, as this is an official elf holiday. The last day for ordering will be December 7th. This will enable us to have stockings ready for pickup by December 12th. We will send out another reminder before the event starts.

November 1 – Beginning Machine Quilting with Betsy Dorr   9-noon  $30
This is a beginning class for those who would like to learn free motion machine quilting. Betsy will help you understand the mechanics of the process. You will also get plenty of time to practice various patterns. Our goal is for you to feel comfortable with the process, knowing that practice with a teacher helps you gain confidence.

November 21 – Slow Stitching – Sashiko Basics and Boro Too,  with Sue Duval 1:00-4:00   $15
We have found a new interest in Sashiko stitching. If you would like to give it a try, this is a great way to get into it and see if you like it. Sue will also demonstrate boro stitching (seen on the bag shown on the right). We are now carrying supplies for this type of needlework and encourage you to give it a try.

November 23 – Winging It with Patty Weidler   9:30-3:00pm      $55
This day long class led by Kitsie Claxton will show you how to “wing” your way to an adorable bird quilt. Kitsie’s method of piecing is very intuitive, serendipitous and fun. She will encourage you to let go of preconceived notions, and just “wing it.” Bring your sense of adventure! There is no paper piecing involved with this project.

December 6, First Snowfall with Patty Weidler 9-3 pm $55

Patty Weidler has created a class to take you through the process of making this quilt. You will be creating one (or two) small wall quilts. We will be working on a small scale of dimensions of 16″ – 20″.  Please bring enough fabric for two or three quilts. This class is a good way to gain confidence with free motion quilting as you really cannot make mistakes! You can do this class with just a walking foot, but it takes more time.
