The first Maine Yarn Cruise is underway, and is off to an amazing start. We have had knitters from many parts of Maine, and other states, visiting the shop and sharing their excitement over this new event. There are 18 participating shops across Maine. Each shop is giving out a monthly door prize, and a grand prize at the end of the event, which gives people lots of chances to win. The Cruise started on May 26th and ends on September 4th, so there is still lots of time to join the fun. We still have those lovely Yarn Cruise bags and passports here if you want to join….the cost is $9.50. A great way to visit some of the loveliest parts of our beautiful state!

We are so thrilled by the response we have had to Mary McFarland’s clothing classes. The favorite is definitely the Tunic Class. In this class, you will make a basic shirt/tunic, with a choice of neck line and arm construction, and make a pattern to fit YOU. You will then construct a garment based on the pattern you create. At the end of this class, you will have a new tunic and a pattern that is custom fitted to you. Mary has a long history of making elegant one of a kind garments and we are so happy that she will teach this class! This is a two day class held on two consecutive days from 9:30 to 3:30. Because of the need to custom tailor each garment, class size will be limited to 4 people.
This class is Friday, August 11th and Saturday, August 12th from 9:30 to 3:30. The class is $85 per day or $170 for the two days. This class will also be offered on October 6 & 7th.
Working with Knit Fabrics 101
We are delighted to have Christina McGinley teach this class. Christina is a prolific clothing maker, with lots of experience and enthusiasm for garment sewing. This class deals exclusively with knit fabrics. Christina will help you understand various types of knits, how to use pdf patterns, along with the basics of putting together a “one hour top”. She will also talk about embellishments, changing neck lines, etc. A great way to learn the joy of sewing with knits! The class is July 15th from 10:00 – 2:30pm. This class will also be offered on August 3rd 12:30 to 4:30.
Willow Tank Dress
Christina McGinley has recently joined our teaching staff here, and has inspired us with her garment making skills and enthusiasm. This class will focus on using woven fabrics (cotton, linen, batiks, or cotton linen blends) Christina will help you learn to do french seams as an alternative to serging for woven garments, and the use of bias binding as a neck and sleeve finish. This is a great class for sewers who would like to enter or re-enter the world of garment-making. The class is July 20th from 12:30 – 4:30pm.
